Indio is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a population of approximately 76,036 people and a total area of 75.6 square kilometres (29 square miles).
City Council
The City of Indio operates under a City Council-City Manager form of government. The city council is the legislative body of the city council with the powers to pass policies that shape the day to day operation of the city. Other responsibilities of the city council include holding public hearings, authorizing expenditures, adopting of ordinances and resolutions as well as the budget, and the appointment of the City Manager and City Attorney.
Council members are elected by the city residents at large and serve four year term. The mayor and vice mayor are appointed annually by council members. Elaine Holmes is the current Mayor.
