It has over 650 employees all under the command of Sheriff Mark Essick. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office operates two jail facilities. The Main Adult Detention Facility (MADF) is a “new generation” facility with a “direct supervision” design. It has a housing capacity of 1473 inmates. This medium/maximum security facility houses both pre-trial and sentenced inmates. Inmates at this facility with the last name starting with A to L have visitation on Saturday and Monday. The visiting hours are 10:15 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 1:40 pm, 2:20 pm, 3:00 pm., 4:25 pm, 7:00 pm, 7:45 pm, 8:30 pm, 9:15 pm, and 9:50 pm. On Wednesdays, their visiting hours are 10:15 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 1:40 pm, 2:20 pm, and 3:00 pm. Inmates with the last name beginning with M to Z have visitation on Sundays and Tuesdays.
