The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for serving and protecting the people and communities within the area. The head of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is Sheriff Tom Bosenko. His second-in-command is Undersheriff Eric Magrini. The Undersheriff oversees the day-to-day operations of the entire department. There are several divisions and units within the Sheriff’s Office. The Custody Division is under the supervision of Captain Dave Kent while Captain Pat Kropholler oversees the Patrol Division and the Major Crimes Unit. The Coroner’s Division is headed by Lieutenant Gene Randall while Lieutenant Tyler Thompson oversees the Burney Station.

The Shasta County Jail is a high security local detention facility that holds individuals awaiting trial or serving their sentence. The jail has a maximum capacity of 480 inmates – 403 males and 80 females. Inmates at this facility are allowed visitation. Each inmate is allowed up to two scheduled visits. You will need to get in touch with the reception officer of the jail in order to learn an inmate’s visitation schedule. Visiting hours are generally 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, 7 days per week; an additional period of 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm is available on weekends.
