It has over 650 employees all under the command of Sheriff Mark Essick. The Sheriff’s Office also operates two substations. The Geurneville Substation (also called the River Substation) serves the western portion of Sonoma County. The Sonoma Valley Substation, on the other hand, provides patrol services to the areas ranging from the Napa County line to the east, to the mountain ridge between Petaluma and Sonoma to the west, Glen Ellen to the north, and to the San Pablo Bay to the south.
