Clayton is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States.  According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a population of approximately 10,879 people and a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2).

City Council

The city of Clayton has a city council form of government, the city council is the overall policy making body in the city. In addition, the city council serves as the Board of Directors for the Geological Hazard Abatement District, the Clayton Financing Authority and the Redevelopment Agency. The council is made up of five council members elected by the city residents and serve four-year overlapping terms. The mayor is elected from among the council members annually. Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. Council meetings are played back on Comcast Channel 27 on Saturday at Noon following the City Council meetings. Council members include Jim Diaz – Mayor, Keith Haydon – Vice Mayor, Tuija Catalano -Councilmember, Julie K Pierce- Councilmember and David T. Shuey – Councilmember.
